Inter-generational Activities
Concordia Place serves many generations, which in turn creates a wonderful opportunity seniors and teens to socialize and partner on various activities. Emerging Leader teens and our Senior Program participants combine for multigenerational fieldtrips. This past summer the teens invited the seniors to accompany them to Milwaukee to visit, Growing Power, a large urban organic farm; had lunch at a German restaurant; and toured the Milwaukee Art Museum together. The seniors had a Senior Prom and the teens volunteered to ‘chaperone’ the dance and had a great time learning the foxtrot and the waltz.
Our teens serve seniors in the Avondale community as well. For the past three years, during our summer program, the Emerging Leader teens visit St. Paul’s House in order to socialize and interact with the wonderful senior residents. Our teens plant herb gardens in window boxes in the beginning of the summer. Seniors and teens love to talk about herbs and food that bring about wonderful stories and memory sharing. Teens enjoy playing board games with the seniors and socializing in the sunshine of St. Paul’s Wheel Chair Courtyard Garden.
